What kind of flowers would you like?

What kind of flowers would you like?

As a floral designer I have had several brides come to me with an array of preferences and personal design ideas and as an artist it has been my responsibility to create their idea with my design aesthetic. This always starts with two questions. What are your wedding colors and do you have any flowers you love, that you need in your wedding. Some times I have abide that knows exactly what she wants, but most of the bride is familiar with about 5 flowers: Rose, carnation, tulip, Star Gazer and Calla Lily. This is not a surprise considering that the marketing on these flowers is considerably greater than any other flower. How ever style, texture, shape and color should be the driving force into what flowers you choose for your wedding.

Lets start with style:
Classic:
This style usually uses harder structured flowers such as roses, Lilly and orchids in a larger structure. This also has lots of fillers used such as babies breath, solid aster, spray roses, hydrangea, and stock or snap dragons. Also, these are generally taller so long stems are needed which means this is more costly.

Garden:
This usually uses a soft textures mixed with varying greens. I would usually suggest poppies, anemones, spray roses, peony for flowers with several greens: amaranthus, any kind of berry, feather eucalyptus, box wood.

Modern:
for this one should use harder structured flowers with very little filler such as Orchids, gerbera daisy, tropical (anthirium, ginger, bird of paradise, musa, Calathea and Heliconia)

Eclectic:
this is usually several fillers with several textures such as roses and iris or delphinium and Lilly, stock and calla lilies. Usually there will be more than one size or shape or arrangement and this is almost never monochromatic.
